Hi,
  From the output you sent me, it appears that you're running
a 32-bit Linux kernel on your machine, though the hardware itself
should be 64-bit-capable. For such an installation, you would need
to install the 32-bit Linux version of VMD (i.e. the "LINUX" build).
Delete the VMD installation you've got and try installing that plain
32-bit version of VMD and let us know how that goes.
